A message for february

The Blog

this month has greater value

It’s a month that is generally recognized to celebrate love… but hear me out! It’s not just about the chocolate-covered strawberries and bouquets. It’s a month where we may see glimpses of winter’s end and spring can start to show itself. It’s Black History Month, which is another significant time to reflect.

This month can mean something different to us if we allow it to. Love is a small word with a large meaning. For me, empathy and love go such a long way in life. Make people feel validated in your presence rather than ignored or disrespected. Love means that we accept when most people make mistakes, they are trying to learn from them. We need reminders that nobody is perfect, therefore, we must be real with our expectations. We must value people‘s differences and not discriminate against them for existing as they are. We need to let those around us live their lives and not make it our personal mission to impede on that happiness that they too deserve. Don’t get caught up in so much disdain that you are consumed with controlling people’s lives.

reflect & grow

We need to express love by extending a hand to people rather than watching them suffer while they face hardships. We must realize that just because we believe something so strongly, does not mean that there isn’t room to listen. Everybody has a story worth hearing and a reason for believing what they do. Unfortunately, not too many people take the time to understand and be open to new ways of thinking.

Listening to someone who believes in something entirely different and realizing that if a little piece of what they said resonated with you, it does not mean that everything you believe is now invalid. Finding commonalities or having realizations means that you take a little something from every single person you meet and it creates a bigger picture. Agreeing with a point that someone else makes allows your worldview to open up a little bit. Take little pieces of wisdom from everyone and allow people to speak to you. Will you sit back and listen long enough for them to do that?

your voice

Love and kindness are not only shown with the people you surround yourself with in person, but they also revolve around the people that you interact with online. We need to be the same person face-to-face as we are here. I always think that the way people behave online is their true personality. People can put up a big façade when they’re face-to-face, but the things people say behind a computer show what’s really in their heart. If you press send online and you know it’s nothing that you would say while looking them in the eyes, it’s probably not something you should be saying. Are you speaking to be combative, are you speaking to learn and listen?

What if you were given a fake username right now and had the ability to post on anybody’s pages whether it was artists, personal profiles, businesses, news articles, politics, or an influencer? How much of it would be hateful and judgemental and how much of it would be kind and understanding? Would you jump to conclusions no matter what you knew about the situation, or would you wish somebody well or simply move on. This is a perspective I will never forget. It changes what you give your energy to.

We just need to listen, learn, educate, and grow in our emotions and beliefs, so that the hate can fade away, and it can be replaced with gratitude and love for all people
